COMPLUTUM – HOUSE OF HIPPOLYTUS
Roman origins of Alcalá de Henares

The origins of Alcala de Henares date back to Roman times, when the place was named Complutum, a name which is now inextricably linked to Alcala, as in the Complutense University, for example. Nowadays, the Roman ruins on the city outskirts still bear witness to these origins. With regard to this archaeological complex, of particular note is the House of Hippolytus, a former School for the young people of Complutum. Here we would highlight a mosaic showing a fishing scene, created by Hippolytus, the artist who gave his name to this house.
